HEALTHY NEWS YOU CAN USE

Bird-watching is a perfect hobby for people of any age. It’s intellectually engaging, walkable at any pace, socially adaptable, and nature-rich. You can do it from home or, better yet, Fairfield County offers numerous accessible sanctuaries, expert-led programs, and beautiful trails, making it easy to weave feather-filled fun into every season.
Whether peering through binoculars at marsh birds in spring, savoring the hush of a winter woodland, or learning alongside fellow enthusiasts, birdwatching is accessible to all. Tips to Begin:
- Start at Home – Set up feeders with different kinds of seeds or simply keep an eye out from your window. For the more technologically inclined, check out the Bird Buddy webcam feeder. Read up on local species and create your “watch for” list.
- Visit Local Sanctuaries – The Connecticut Audubon Society and the Greenwich Audubon Center offer great sites.
- Join a Walk, Club or Class – For regularly scheduled programs, visit Connecticut Audubon Society, New Canaan Nature Center or Earthplace in Westport.
- Help Science — Project FeederWatch is a November-May bird survey across North America organized by The Cornell Lab.
Whether solo or social, slow or spirited, bird-watching fits your pace—just take that first step into the natural world.
Note: Always contact your healthcare provider before embarking on any new exercise plan.
