As of the most recent US Census, Fairfield County seniors (age 65+) comprise 16% of the population. (Connecticut as a whole is the seventh oldest in the nation by median age.) Looking forward ten years, another 136,000 residents, who may have settled in Fairfield County for jobs and raising families in their 20s and 30s, will also turn 65.
While a segment of seniors leave Connecticut in retirement for warmer climates, many will stay to be near family and friends and continue to enjoy Fairfield County’s “best of all worlds” abundance of culture, nature and recreation. With our relatively high cost of living, this means that soon-to-be seniors need to be educated on all of their healthcare coverage options to maintain the lifestyles they prefer. Health Directions looks forward to supporting our communities in their planning.
